- Until the late seventeenth century, nothing much was known about Africa due to its inhospitable climate and difficult terrain. It was only later that it was explored by the Europeans. Therefore, it came to be known as the ‘Dark Continent”.
- Australia is the smallest continent which is also a country. It is surrounded by water on all sides and thus is known as the ‘Island Continent’.
