Volcanic activity and the formation of the fold mountains are common near the margins of tectonic plates beacuse it is here that the chances are more for tectonic plates to collide against each other or slide next to each other. It in such scenario volcanic activity take place.
Fold mountains are formed when two plates move together (a compressional plate margin). This can be where two continental plates move towards each other or a continental and an oceanic plate. The movement of the two plates forces sedimentary rocks upwards into a series of folds. The young fold mountains are formed because of tectonic activities.
