We will consider water for application of the properties of different substance.

Sinking- The substance will sink, if the density of object is more than the density of water.
example: iron, steel, glass pieces.

Floating- The substance will float, if the density of that substance is less than the density of water.
examples: wood, cork, ice etc.

Soluble- the substance which dissolve in water are soluble.
example: sugar, salt

Insoluble- the substance which do not dissolves are insoluble.
examples: sand, plastic etc.
