Give an account of the war on the Eastern

In August 1914, the war broke out on the Eastern Front with the invasion of Russian land by the forces of Austria-Hungary. Germany and Austria repulsed the Russian attack successfully and won parts of the Russian empire in Europe. They also registered successes against Serbia, Romania, and Italy. Outside Europe, campaigns were started against the Ottoman Empire in the Palestine, Mesopotamia and Arabia; and against Turkey and Germany in Iran. Japan occupied German colonies in East Asia and Britain and France captured most of the German colonies in Africa.
