  1. Title of the account: The name of the account is written at the top of the account.
  2. Dr./Cr.: Each ledger account is divided into two parts. The left hand side is known as the debit side and the right hand side is known as the credit side. The words ‘Dr.’ and ‘Cr.’ are used to denote debit and credit.
  3. Date: Year, month and the date of the transaction are recorded in the date column.
  4. Particulars: ‘To’ is written before the accounts which appears on the debit side of an account and ‘By’ is written before the accounts which appears on the credit side of an account in the ‘Particulars’ column. The name of the item pertaining to the original book of entry is mentioned either in the debit side or in the credit side of the particulars column.
  5. J.F.: The page number of the original book of entry, on which relevant transaction is recorded, is entered in the journal folio column.
  6. Amount: The amount pertaining to the original book of entry is recorded in the amount column.
