Otto Frank
Otto Frank was a Jewish businessman and the father of Anne Frank. He vigilantly protected his family from being discovered by the Nazis and also took in other families to share their hiding place even if it meant putting a strain on his family’s resources. He was, therefore a kind-hearted man. Like Anne, Otto Frank, her father, is also a lover of books, history and news. He nurtures Anne’s interests and encourages her to read more. He also tutors the children in the Annexe which shows that he is intelligent and a worthy role model for them He is a jovial character who is frequently trying to amuse everyone. He is peace loving, calm and practical. Living a claustrophobic existence in the Annexe, Otto mediates all the quarrels that happen among the families. He instils hope and strength in Anne and she admires him immensely. But there are times when Anne feels that he does not treat her like the mature woman she is. Her love for her father is revealed when she discontinues her relationship with Peter van Daan since Otto does not completely approve of it. He is the representation of integrity and human dignity. He is a pillar of strength for everyone in the Annexe.
