Guru Teg Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, opposed the anti-religious policies of Aurangzeb. This led to conflicts between the former and the latter. Guru Teg Bahadur was later beheaded on the instructions of Aurangzeb. Guru Govind Singh, the tenth Guru, realised that it was necessary to transform the Sikhs into a martial force to fight the injustices of Aurangzeb. Hence, he constituted Khalsa for protecting the Sikhs. There were frequent fights between the Sikhs and the Mughals even after the death of Aurangzeb.
