Timur, a Mongol, invaded India in 1398 CE. Timur’s chief motive for invasion was to plunder the wealth of India. He crossed the river Indus and arrived at the capital city of Delhi after raiding many Indian villages. Delhi was completely ransacked, and the local inhabitants were killed. This invasion and plundering of Delhi had the following effects on the country:

  1. There was tremendous loss of lives and property.
  2. The invasion exposed the weaknesses of the Delhi Sultanate.
  3. It invited many foreign invaders to attack various regions of India and plunder its wealth.
