Parents: CcPp × Ccpp
Gametes: CP, Cp, cP, cp × Cp, cp
Product: CCPp, CcPp, CCpp, Ccpp, CcPp, ccPp, Ccpp, ccpp
In sweet pea, the flowers are either white or purple. The genes C and P when present alone e.g., Ccpp, ccPp, CCpp, ccPP give white colour to the flower. Absence of both the dominant genes (ccpp) also results in white colour. On the other hand if they are present together (CCPp, CcPP, CcPp, CCPP) the colour of the flower becomes purple. The purple colour is, therefore, a result of complementary effect of the two genes.
- CCPp: Coloured
- CcPp: Coloured
- CCpp: White
- Ccpp: White
- CcPp: Coloured
- ccPp: White
- Ccpp: White
- Ccpp: White
Ratio of white : coloured flowers = 5: 3
