Hind brain has three parts:
(i) Cerebellum: It is the regulating centre for swallowing, coughing, sneezing and vomiting and helps to maintain the balance of the body and coordinate the muscular activities.
(ii) Pons: It takes part in the regulation of respiration.
(iii) Medulla oblongata: It is responsible for the coordination and adjustment of movement and posture.
Forebrain consists of following regions and their functions are:
1. Cerebrum: It is the seat of intelligence, memory, consciousness, will power.
It controls the voluntary action.
2. Diencephalon:
(a) Thalamus - It sends pain and pressure impulses to the cerebrum.
(b) Hypothalamus- It controls the body temperature and the activity of the pituitary gland.
The pituitary gland secretes various hormones that stimulate the growth of all body tissues, promotes normal development and activity of the thyroid gland, promotes milk production in humans.
