Structure of xylem:
- Complex permanent tissue, with thick-walled cells.
- Most of the cells are dead
- Cells are in the form of tubular passages
Functions of xylem:
- Provides upward movement of water and dissolved materials absorbed by the root from the soil to other parts of the plant.
Structure of phloem:
- Complex permanent tissue
- Can move materials in both the directions
Functions of phloem:
- Provides a passage for the downward movement of food manufactured in the leaves to various parts of the plant.
- Allows the upward movement of the prepared food towards the growing new leaves.
