CBSE Class 10 Answered
Four resistors of 2 ohm each are first connected in series and then in parallel with a battery, Find the ratio of electric current in series and parallel connection

Expert Answer
When the resistors are connected in series,
Rs = R1 + R2 + R3 + R4
Thus,
Rs = 2 x 4 =8 Ω
When the resistors are connected in parallel,
By Ohm's law,
V = IR
For series combination, Vs = Is Rs ... (1)
For parallel combination, Vp = Ip Rp ... (2)
Given : Vs = Vp ... (3)
From (1), (2) and (3),
Thus, the ratio of electric current in series to parallel is,
Is : Ip = 1:16
