CBSE Class 10 Answered
Four cells of 2 volts each re connected in series with an ammeter, a resistor of 6 ohms and another unknown resistor .A voltmeter is also connected across both resistors.The current flowing through the circuit is 2 Amps.Draw the circuit and find the current through both the resistors as well as the potential difference across them.

According to the question,
Voltage in the circuit = 2 x 4 = 8 V
As the current of 2 A is flowing throught the circuit the resistors must be connected in parallel to each other.
Thus, by using Ohm's law,
The current flowing through 6 Ω resistor is
V = IR
8 = I x 6
I = 8/6 = 4/3 A
Thus current flowing through unknown resistor is,
Thus, the unknown resistor is,
Thus, current through 6 ohm resistor is 4/3 A = 1.3 A
And current through unknown resistor = Total current in circuit - current through 6 ohm resistor = 2 - 1.3 = 0.7 A
The potential difference across both the resistor is 8 V.
