Find the value of x+y if [x(1+3i)+y.(2-i)-5+i cube]=0

I understand the question is  :  x(1+3i) +y(2-i) -(5+i)3 = 0 ;
 
f(x,y) = x(1+3i) +y(2-i) -(5+i)3 = 0   ........................(1)
 
we have (5+i)3 = 53 +15i ( 5+i ) +i3 = 125 + 75i +15 i2 + i3 = 125 +75 i -15 - i = 110 + 74 i
 
hence eqn.(1) is written as,  x(1+3i) +y(2-i) - 110 - 74 i  = ( x+ 2y -110 ) + i (3x -y -74) = 0 + i 0
 
By equating real and imaginary parts we get
 
x + 2 y = 110  .......................(2)
3 x + y = 74  .....................(3)
 
By solving eqns.(2) and (3) , we get x = 38/5  and y = 256/5 , hence  x+y = 294/5 = 58.8
