Find the thermal conductivity of metal of a rod of length 0.5 m and diameter 4 cm. One end of the rod is at 110 °C and the other end is in ice at 0 °C. 15 g of ice melts per minute. (latent heat of ice is 80 cal/ g).

Here Δx = 50 cm
ΔT = 110 - 0 = 110 °C
Δt = 1 min = 60 sec
A = πr² = π×2² = 12.56
We know that
Q = mL = 15 x 80 = 1200 cal
We have
0.726 cal.s-1cm-1
