I assume the function is begin mathsize 12px style square root of log fraction numerator x over denominator begin display style 1 half x squared space minus space 1 end style end fraction end root end style
when x = ±√2 , denominator of argument of logrithm becomes zero, hence function is undefined.
 
when x < - √2 , argument of logrithm becomes -ve
 
when  0 ≤ x < √2  again argument of logarithm is -ve
 
Hence domain of the function  { x begin mathsize 12px style element of end styleR |   - √2 < x < 0   or  x > √2  }
