Find the de-Broglie wavelength associated with neutrons in thermal equilibrium with matter at 300K.

Expert Answer
neutron energy at thermal equilibrium = 0.025eV
deborglie wavelength λ = h/(mv) = h /(2Em)1/2 ...............(1)
where h is plancks constant, h = 6.626 × 10-34 Js-1 ,
E is energy , E = 0.025 eV = 0.025 × 1.602 × 10-19 J
m is mass of neutron = 1.675 × 10-27 kg
Using all the above values in eqn.(1), we get λ = (6.626×10-34) / (2 × 0.025 ×1.602 × 10-19 ×1.675 × 10-27 )
deborglie wavelength λ = 1.81 × 10-10 m
