Find the area of the shaded region in fig., if PR = 24 cm, PQ = 7 cm and O is the centre of the circle.

Using Pythagoras theorem,

QR2 =PQ2 + PR2 =(7)2 + (24)2 = 49 + 576 = 625 =252

QR = 25 cm

Area of shaded region = Area of semicircle - area of PQR
