Find elongation in rod? here why rod is elongate while there is no strain

Expert Answer
Assuming the rod is not moving due to friction, elongation l is related to strss and strain relationship of elsticity of the rod
If Y is young's modulus, then we have, Y = stress/strain = (F/A) / (l/L)
where F is applied force, A is crosssection area of rod , l is elongation and L is length of rod.
hence elongation l = ( F L ) / (Y A )
