If an ordinary moving coil ammeter is connected to alternating current it will vibrate so fast that it will appear to be stationary.
The direction of the needle movement will change with each half cycle of the alternating current source.
Actually there is an ac current but the coil of the moving coil meter is unable to respond at the high frequency of the alternating source and hence shows zero reading.
