Expert Answer
Conduction is the process by which heat energy is transferred from one atom to another in the direction of lower temperature without the actual movement of the atoms from their mean position.
Conduction of heat energy takes place mainly in solids.
When a solid is heated from one end, its atoms gain heat energy and this energy increases their kinetic energy so they vibrate about their mean position with greater amplitude.
