Main role played by St. Francis Xavier in spreading Christianity in India was:
  • He came to Goa in 1542 and spent initial months in treating the sick in the hospitals. He then began to spread the word of God to the people.
  • He often gathered a large number of people, took them to the Church and explained the beliefs of Christianity to them.
  • In 1584, he sent three missionaries to the three main Indian centers to establish missions and to spread Christianity.
  • He worked relentlessly for ten years and preached the teachings of Lord Jesus and worked towards spreading Christianity.
