Brutus was a great friend of Caesar but he ended up playing a big part in his assassination. Although Brutus harboured a great deal of affection of his friend, his commitment towards his republic was greater. In Brutus’ own words, he loved Caesar but his love for Rome was far greater. Brutus feared that Caesar’s ambition might come at the cost of Rome’s future. He was worried that Caesar might become the king and put an end to the republic.
