Explain the positive effects of Western education.

Following are the positive effects of Western education:

  1. The imparting of liberal modern education gave rise to an awareness against foreign rule of the British.
  2. The ideas of liberty, fraternity and democracy began to gain currency among Indians.
  3. Events of nationalist fervor in the West such as the French Revolution and the American War of Independence popularised the ideas of freedom, independence and nationalism among Indians.
  4. English broke the linguistic barriers which previously existed between Indians from different regions and unified them in their pursuance of a nationalist political agenda.
