Prokaryotes are the organisms that lack well-defined nucleus and other cell organelles. In case of prokaryotes, cell division occurs by fission or budding but not by mitosis. Example: bacteria, blue-green algae.

Eukaryotes are the organisms that possess well-defined nucleus along with the nuclear membrane and well-differentiated cell organelles. In case of eukaryotes, Cell division occurs by mitosis or meiosis. Examples: Euglena, plants, animals.
