Answer:
During the era of Cold War, the world was divided into two blocs- one led by former Russia and the other led by USA. India at this time followed the policy of NOn LAignment Movement where by she with other like minded countries decided not to join any of the two blocs.
Often people think that not joining any of the militarty bloc is a policy of neutrality ot isolationism. Neutrality means to remain neutral and not to give opinion on any matter. Isolationalism means to remain isolated or indifferent to what is happening in the world. It also means to not participate in any world event.
However, India was a part of NAM but it does not mean that she followed the policy of neutrality ot isolationism because she participated in world events and expressed her views and opinions.
  • NAM is not isolationism as the term means to stay away from world affairs which was not the case with NAM countries
  • NAM countries played an active role in making peace between the two rival alliances
  • NAM was also not neutral as neutrality means to stay away and not to participate in wars.
  • NAM countries such as India tried to prevent wars among the nations and also tried to bring an end to wars that were being fought off.
