Diffraction is the phenomenon of bending of light around corners of an obstacle in the path of light.
Condition: Diffraction of light takes place if the size of the obstacle is comparable to the wavelength of the light.

In single slit diffraction experiment,
Intensity is proportional to the square of the slit width. Thus, when the width of the slit is made double the original width, intensity will get four times of its original value.
