CBSE Class 10 Answered
Explain cell elongation (induced by auxin) and its advantages/functions
Asked by somyap | 01 May, 2010, 04:19: PM
Expert Answer
Auxin promotes cell elongation in the following way: Recently divided cells are small, square shaped and densely packed. Auxin causes these cells to pump H+ into their cell walls. The higher pH activates enzymes to break cross linkages in the wall allowing the ever present turgor pressure to elongate these cells.
