PEP is Phosphoenol pyruvate.
PEP is produced in the mesophyll cells of the leaf of C4 plants. Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase plays a key role in C4 plants and is involved in anaplerotic metabolism, pH regulation, and stomatal opening.
