Disproportion is the silmulteneous oxidation and reduction of the same species.
The half cell reactions are :
bold Oxidation colon space space space 6 OH to the power of minus space plus space bevelled 1 half space Cl subscript 2 space rightwards arrow with blank on top space 2 ClO subscript 3 superscript minus space plus space 5 straight e to the power of minus space plus space 3 straight H subscript 2 straight O
bold Reduction colon space space space bevelled 5 over 2 Cl subscript 2 space plus space 5 straight e to the power of minus space rightwards arrow with blank on top space 5 Cl to the power of minus

As from above, 3 moles of Cl2 open square brackets 1 half Cl subscript 2 left parenthesis oxd right parenthesis space plus space fraction numerator begin display style 5 end style over denominator begin display style 2 end style end fraction Cl subscript 2 left parenthesis red right parenthesis space equals space 6 over 2 space equals space 3 space Cl subscript 2 close square brackets
and 5 moles electrons are involved in the redox reactions.

The molar mass of Cl2 = 71 g/mol.

By using the formula,

Eq. space mass space of space Oxidising space or space reducing space agents space equals fraction numerator Moles space of space oxidising space or space reducing space agent cross times Molar space mass over denominator No. space of space electrons space taking space part space in space the space redox space reaction end fraction

Therefore the equivalent mass of Cl2 is 42.6 g/mol
