The Moderates maintained a faith in the British sense of justice and fair play, abstained from the use of violence, practised constitutional agitation and hence are said to have adopted the method of ‘Prayer, Petition and Protest’. Following this moderate method, the Congress presented the government with resolutions and petitions and expected the government to enact laws to address a particular concern. In order to circulate the message of unity and political awareness, pamphlets were distributed, lectures delivered and articles published in the print media. The moderates also organised processions, protest marches and dispatched delegations to England in order to impress upon the British government the necessity of reforms.
