The high-density polyethylene is more crystalline than low-density polyethylene because it contains fewer branches. The mechanism for the polymerization of low-density polyethylene is free radical polymerization. The uses of low-density polyethylene are limited due to high number of branches. HDPE is a process which allows the polymerisation to continue further and so create longer chains.
LDPE is softer, more flexable and melts at lower temperatures than HDPE.
HDPE is harder, has a higher chemical resistance and can withstand higher temperatures. (120 Degrees Celsius for short periods and 110 Degrees Celcuis continiously).
