Difference between distance and displacement: - 



  • Definition : - It is the actual length travelled by an object.
  • Definition: - It is the shortest distance travelled by an object between the initial and final positions, along a certain direction.
  • It is a scalar quantity, that is, it only has a magnitude.
  • It is a vector quantity, that is, it has a magnitude as well as direction.
  • For a moving object, it can never be zero.
  • For a moving object, it can be zero, positive or negative.
  • It is more than or equal to the magnitude of displacement.
  • It is less than or equal to the distance.
