Difference between focal length and radius of curvature?!
Asked by drhimasingh | 30 Nov, 2019, 12:22: PM
Expert Answer
focal length is denoted by f
and radius of curvature is denoted by letter 'R'
The focal length is the distance between the focus (F) and pole (P) of the mirror.
The distance between the focus F and centre of curvature (C) is called radius of curvature.
The radius of curvature is twice the focal length of the mirror. Thus, this can be expressed as
R = 2f
where, R - radius of curvature and
f - focal length of mirror
Refer the diagram below for understanding the explanation. Observe F, C and P.
