deviations

Answer:

Deviation is the particular observation subtracted from the mean value.

For example, for data point 1,2,3, the mean is (1+2+3)/3 = 2.

Now the deviation of first observations i.e. 1 from mean = 1-2 = -1.

Deviation of second observation = 2-2 = 0.

Deviation of third observation = 3-2 = 1.

Sum of deviations = -1+0+1 = 0.

This is true for any number of observations.
