Permanent tissues have cells which do not divide and are specialised to perform a specific function.
Simple Permanent Tissues:
- There are three kinds - Protective tissue, Supportive Tissue
- Dermal Tissue is the protective tissue. It forms the protective covering of the plant's body.
- Supportive Tissues: The role of supportive tissue is to provide support and mechanical stregnth to the plant parts.
- Parenchyma, collenchyma and scelrenchyma are the supportive tissues.
- Parenchyma: It is present in the stem, leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds.
- Collenchyma: It is found in non-woody plants, leaf stalks and veins of leaves.
- Sclerenchyma: It is found in fruit peels, seed coats.
Complex Permanent Tissues:
- Xylem and Phloem are the complex permanent tissues.
- Different cells come together to form these tissues and perform the specific function.
- Xylem: It is a water conducting tissue. It is formed of four elements - tracheids, vessels, fibre and xylem parenchyma.
- Phloem: It is a food conducting tissue. It is formed of four elements - sieve tubes, companion cells, fibre and phloem parenchyma
