Describe the distribution of land and water on the Earth.

Around three fourth surface of the Earth is covered with water and one fourth portion is land.
There is more landmass in the Northern Hemisphere than in the Southern Hemisphere.
The main landmass generally tapers towards the south. Three southern peninsulas of Europe and Asia taper towards the South.
Isthmus of Panama is a narrow piece of land which joins North America and South America.
The North Pole is surrounded by the Arctic Ocean. The latter is surrounded by North America and Eurasia.
The South Pole lies in Antartica, which is covered with thick sheets of ice for all the year round.
