conflicts between the Chalukyas and the Pallavas.

The Chalukyas wanted complete control over the Deccan Plateau region. They were involved in frequent conflicts with the Pallavas. Pulakesin II defeated Mahendravarman I but was defeated in the next battle by Narasirnhavarman and his capital Vatapi was also conquered. The struggle for power went on till the mid 8th century CE, when the Chalukyas were defeated by the Rashtrakutas and the Pallavas were defeated by the Cholas.
