When Hallock sits down at his table to write, he realizes that he is at loss for ideas. He curses the fact that he has to write. As soon as this happens, he hears a woman’s voice. It was the voice of Helen the ghost. She reveals herself to be the one giving inspiration to Hallock when he needed ideas. The ghost asks a favour from him; she wants him to discourage humans from using the Ouija board. She says that the entire community of ghosts is troubled by humans invoking them through the board all the time. John  Hallock agrees to do as he was told.
