Expert Answer
Double fertilization is the process in which two male gametes fuse with the female gamete and the secondary nucleus respectively to form the zygote and the endosperm.
In this process, two male gametes are involved in the process of fertilization. One of the male gamete fuses with the female gamete and forms the zygote, which develops in the seed. The second male gamete fuses with the secondary nucleus of the central cell and forms the triploid primary endosperm nucleus, which gives rise to the endosperm. The endosperm functions in providing nourishment to the developing embryo.
Triple fusion can be defined as the fusion involving two polar nuclei and a sperm nucleus that occurs in double fertilization in a seed plant, giving rise to a triploid nucleus called the primary endosperm nucleus, which later develops into the endosperm.
