Three ways in which we pollute
i) Air
- Burning of fuels like petrol, diesel and coal pollute air
-Harmful gases like CO2, Carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, ammonia, smoke, fine particles of ash and other toxic chemicals given out of vehicles and chimneys of industries and power stations causes pollution.
- Burning of substances like plastic, rubber, cloth, crackers, sends harmful smoke in air which pollutes it.
ii) Water
- Untreated sewage from houses and hospitals pollutes water bodies.
- Industries release poisonous chemical wastes such as arsenic, mercury and lead pollutes the water.
- People pollute water by bathing, washing dirty clothes, utensils in the water bodies
iii) Soil
- When we dump domestic wates, hospital wastes and harmful chemical waste into soil it causes soil pollution.
- poisonous waste from industries buried in soil also pollute the soil.
- Construction activities also leads to soil pollution.
- When large amount of garbage are dumped in open spaces it decays and starts to emit a bad smell. It becomes breeding grounds for mosquitoes and flies which can spread diseases.
