Let us have a positive charge q at a point O. Let us bring another positive test charge Q at a point P . Let the distance OP be r.
Then The force F experienced by the test charge Q is  given by

Electric field due to the point charge q is defined as the force experienced by unit charge.

Since this field intensity depends only on distance r, the symmetry is spherical symmetry
