Define surface tension.  What is the cause of surface tension?  What is its measure?

The property of a liquid due to which its free surface at rest behaves like a stretched membrane and tries to acquire a minimum surface area is known as surface tension.

The cause of surface tension is inter-molecular forces.

Surface tension is measured as force per unit length acting on arbitrary line drawn on free surface.
