  1. Element: An element is a pure substance and is made up of one kind of atoms. Example: Sulphur, Hydrogen, Oxygen.
  2. Compound: A compound is a pure substance made up of two or more different elements combined chemically in a fixed proportion. Example: Water.
  3. Mixture: A mixture is an impure substance made up of two or more elements or compounds mechanically mixed together in any proportion. Example: Gun-powder.
