CBSE Class 11-science Answered

Dear Topper
These questions are actually a general question which come under practical section and are not exactly from this chapter. The questions are:

1.When an ice cube is kept in the place of a bob in a simple pendulum , what change will happen to the pendulum? Will the length of the pendulum increase or decrease?

2.When a simple pendulum is kept on the moon , what is the difference seen on its speed of oscillation and time period?

3.What type of spring is usedin a shock absorber? Will a rigid spring or a flexible spring have more spring constant?

Please do give me the answers as soon as possible

1. The time period of swing of the pendulum will remain unchanged only till the position of centre of gravity of the bob (left after melting the ice) remains at a fixed distance from the point of suspension.

If the centre of gravity of the ice bob is raised upwards after melting, then the effective length of the pendulum decreases. Thus, the time period of the pendulum also decreases.

If the centre of gravity of ice bob shifts downwards after melting, then the effective length of the pendulum increases. Thus the time period of the pendulum also increases.

2. The time period of a simple pendulum is given by

Syntax error from line 1 column 49 to line 1 column 73. Unexpected '<mstyle '.

Where, l is the length of the pendulum from the point from suspension and g is the acceleration due to gravity.

When the pendulum is taken to the Moon, the value of ‘g’ decreases and the time period increases. Thus, the pendulum takes more time to complete one vibration.

Since the time period increases the speed of oscillation of the pendulum also decreases.

NOTE: Please ask other question as a separate query.
