Hi Manish,

The Necklace is a short story by Guy de Maupassant about a woman named Matilda who feels she is born in the wrong kind of  family. She aspires to live a luxurious life but is married off to a clerk who lives a modest life. she spends hours imagining an extravagant life and is always sad about her lowly existence. Once she is invited to a party but she is reluctant to go as she doesn't have any jewels to wear. She borrows a diamond necklace from Mme Forestier but, unfortunately, misplaces it at the party.

The story is about how the Loisels spend a fortune on buying another necklace and then living a decade in misery and poverty to pay off the debts that they took to buy the necklace.

I strongly recommend that you read the story to know what happens at the end of the story.
