Cricket has connections with the rural past of England. This can be seen from the following two facts:
1. The cricket matches initially were played on for many days. The game was played on as long as it took to bowl out a side twice. The village life continued on slower pace and rules of the game were made before the Industrial Revolution. It was only later after the Industrial revolution that the Test Cricket was limited to five day game.
2. We still find that there is no fixed dimension of the cricket grounds. This can be traced back to the origin of the game. Initially, cricket was played on unfenced common land. Because the size of the common lands varied from village to village, no specific size of the field was set.
