Private Quelch was a man of immense knowledge and supreme self confidence. He did not shy away from showing off his knowledge both among his juniors as well as before his seniors. He did not see his exhibitionist nature as a shortcoming. On the contrary, he believed that people looked up to him with admiration due to the store house of information he possessed.
