CBSE Class 8 Answered
Carbon has 4 valency and Oxygen has 2 Valency. When these both combine, they should form C2O4, but it forms CO2, why?

Expert Answer
On crossing over the valencies of carbon and oxygen atoms, the formula obtained is C2O4.
This is because, the subscripts have common factor two.
So divide the formula C2O4 by the common factor 2.
Thus the formula of carbon dioxide is CO2.
