Carbon forms single bond, double bond and triple bond with another carbon atom. Why is it not possible for it to form quadruple bond with another carbon atom?

It's called quadruple bond. C2 is too unstable to exist at normal condition. C2 is highly reactive and can only be studied under high-vacuum conditions, when it can avoid meeting other molecules for long enough to be detected.
